Capacitive Double Sheet Control C100

Capacitive Double Sheet Control

Roland Electronic offers a broad product spectrum of single probe and dual probe double sheet detector systems.
However, some customer applications call for new solutions. The new capacitance double sheet and thickness control system C100-S has been developed to accommodate special customer situations and is now part of the standard product program of Roland.

Measurement is independent of the type of alloy
The capacitance double sheet detection system for metals functions completely independent of the type of material, its alloys or the type of heat treatment. For all metals the system always measures the same thickness regardless whether it’s steel or aluminium or any kind of alloy. This is of special significance for the many new materials used in automotive lightweight bodies, e.g. the so-called duplex and TRIP steels. These and others of the new materials often
have vastly varying electrical and magnetic properties which require not only the teaching of the thickness but also the metallurgical properties of the many types of materials. The unique features of the capacitance principle can lead to significant and cost effective simplification of the measurement system and its integration into higher order control systems.
Thickness measurement and double sheet detection in one unit.
When placing the sheet into the sensor gap the system determines the absolute thickness as analog value which can then be made available to higher order control systems for evaluation. This information can be very valuable in order to ensure that material of the right thickness is being processed, e.g. in straighteners, slitters, cut-length-lines or blanking presses. Alternatively, the absolute thickness can also be used as nominal value to generate the lower and upper switching thresholds for double sheet detection. The capacitance system is therefore an excellent substitution for the mechanical double sheet detectors commonly used by manufacturers of press brakes, bending cells, turret punches or laser cutting machines.

Compact design
The system consists of a C-measurement frame and a control unit. In each part of the C-frame there is an electrode with a temperature probe. The C-frame is attached to the enclosure of the control unit C100-S. The current measurement value is supplied to the machine controls as analog voltage and shown on the LCD of the control unit. The integrated double sheet detector issues also the output signals 0-1-2 sheet. In addition this system has integrated air channels for periodic cleaning of the electrodes with dry and oil free air. Metallic brushes at the sensor gap provide the necessary electrical ground contact of the sheet.
